For an average Indian, holding and carrying important documents can be a hassle in their day-to-day lives. There are times when our wallets and bags get misplaced or lost, and with them are the identity documents, one such important document being our aadhar card.
Aadhaar is a twelve-digit unique identification number that is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to the residents of India. This card is essential because it serves as an individual’s Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA). For an individual to avail subsidies and benefits, which come under the aadhaar scheme, it is compulsory to hold an aadhaar card with a valid 12-digit number.
If such a situation arises where the card is misplaced or the individual does not want to carry the document with them, they can avail a number of options from UIDAI. They can either use mAadhaar app or download Aadhar card online. There are three ways to download aadhar card online.
The e-aadhar is a downloadable version of your aadhaar card in PDF format, it can be used as a printout for POI and POA.
A citizen can also download their e-aadhaar by entering the Aadhar Enrolment Number (EID) as well. The EID is mentioned in the acknowledgement slip given to you at the enrollment centre post application.
If an individual does not have their aadhaar or enrolment number, they can choose to aadhar card download by selecting name and date of birth. All you have to do is retrieve your aadhaar number from UIDAI’s website.
As mentioned before, the e-aadhar is downloaded in a PDF format. (This format can be read by Adobe Acrobat or a PDF reader, you can upload it online as well as read this PDF file). In order to access your card, a password is required; currently it is a combination of the first four letters of your name and the last four characters of your year of birth in capital letters. Once you have gained access, simply take a print out.

How can I download Aadhaar Card online at UIDAI?
An individual can download Aadhaar card (e-Aadhaar) from the website of the UIDAI by following the steps mentioned below: Step 1 – Visit the website of the UIDAI. Step 2 – Select Download Aadhaar under Aadhaar Enrolment. Step 3 – Under "I Have" choose from Aadhaar or VID or Enrolment ID and fill up the empty fields. (Note – if an individual opts for the Aadhaar option, he or she will have to enter the Aadhaar card number. The Aadhaar card number can be found on the backside of the Aadhaar card.) Step 4 – Click on Request OTP. Enter the 6-digit OTP that is sent on the registered mobile number.
