E-Challan (ఇ చలాన్) Telangana

The state of Telangana (TS) has a steady flow of traffic from locals and tourists. In order to ease up the fining system in the state, Telangana RTO has introduced an e-Challan system in the state. Through this article we will understand how to check your e-challan status, and how to pay your fines online in the state of Telangana.

TS e-Challan is the digital copy of your fines incurred in the state of Telangana. E-Challans are issued by the traffic police through their hand held device or through CCTVs throughout the state for infringing or breaking a traffic law (like not having insurance or not wearing a helmet). The digital copy of this challan can be seen and paid online through the web portal of e-Challan set up by the traffic police. By signing into this portal, the users can see their e-Challan status, pay the fines, generate invoices and check their payment history. This facility has increased security, decreased corruption and provides a transparent flow between the traffic department and the public.

The e-Challan system in Telangana aims to make the challan system completely transparent, digital and corruption free. The e-Challan system works in the following way:

• CCTVs are installed across the state to monitor vehicles on the roads. If an infraction has occurred (No seatbelt, going over the speed limit, etc.) it captures the footage as proof.
• This footage is then reviewed by a traffic cop who determines if an e-Challan should be issued.
• Similarly e-Challans are issued by the traffic cops using their hand held devices for infractions.
• The violator will be notified through SMS on their registered mobile number of the infringement.
• The violator can then check the status of their e-Challan through the Parivahan web portal or TS Police Department portal
• Then, they can either pay the fine online or offline and receive a receipt.

You can check your e-Challan status online in the state of Telangana through the TS Police Department portal or Parivahan portal.

Through Telangana Police Department Portal

• Visit TS Police Department e-Challan Portal.
• Enter your vehicle number.
• Enter the captcha.
• Click on “Go”
• You will be redirected to a page where you can see your e-Challan status

Through Parivahan Portal

• Visit the Parivahan e-Challan Website.
• Click on "Check Challan Status."
• Enter your Challan Number/Vehicle Number/Driving licence Number.
• Fill in the Captcha Code and click "Get Detail."
• The system will show any pending challans with payment options.

E-Challans were introduced to increase transparency and reduce corruption, along with making the whole challan system digital. You can use your Driving Licence or Registration Number to check e-Challan status online. You can pay your e-Challan fines online in the state of Telangana

Through TS Police Department Portal

• Visit TS Police Department e-Challan Portal.
• Enter your vehicle number.
• Enter the captcha.
• Click on “Go”
• From the list of e-Challans on the screen, select the e-Challan against which you want to make payment.
• Pay the fine online through internet banking or debit/credit cards
• Download / Print the receipt if required (You can check it later in payment history as well).

Through Parivahan Portal

• Visit the Parivahan e-Challan Website.
• Click on "Check Challan Status."
• Enter your Challan Number/Vehicle Number/Driving licence Number.
• Fill in the Captcha Code and click "Get Detail."
• Select the pending e-Challan you want to make payment against
• Pay the fine online through internet banking or debit/credit cards
• Download / Print the receipt if required.

You can also make e-Challan payments through UPI apps like Gpay and PayTM.

In case you wish to pay the e-Challan offline, you can do so in the state of Telangana by:

• Paying the fine on the spot

As the traffic cop stops you for the violation in question, you can ask the traffic cop to make payment for the e-Challan on the spot through cash or UPI scanner. Make sure to ask for a receipt for the payment.

• Visiting RTO

You can print your e-Challan from the online portals and take it to the nearest RTO in TS. There you can pay by cash or for the safer side prepare a Demand Draft/Cheque.

There are several benefits of e-Challan in the state of Telangana that include:

• Complete digital process
• Paperless transaction
• Transparency between the traffic police and the people
• Avoid Corruption and bribery
• Avoid wasting time in long queues at the police station
• E-Challan also keeps a record of all the payments made
• Rules are followed more vigilantly because of CCTVs on highways and busy roads.

These are the new and latest traffic violations and penalties which are enforceable since 1st March 2025.

Sometimes you may be wrongfully fined through e-Challan or receive an incorrect e-Challan. If you feel you are wrongfully cited, you can challenge the e-Challan in a court if the following methods don't work:

• Collect evidence to prove your innocence if necessary.
• Contact traffic police through their helpline number: 0120-2459171
• You can also file a complaint by emailing helpdesk-echallan@gov.in.
• You can also file a complaint on e-Challan website
• Provide all the required details in the above mentioned website and select your issue
• If they find your information relevant and you are innocent, e-Challan will be cancelled.
• If this process does not resolve your issue, you can move to court to contest the citation given.

In order to avoid getting e-challans in the state of Telangana, one must adhere to all the traffic rules and regulations like:

• Do not drink and drive
• Overtake only from the right side
• Drive on the left side
• Give proper indicators while turning
• Do not use phone while driving
• Follow traffic signal
• Avoid overspeeding
• Give way to emergency vehicles
• Keep required documents with you or stored in Digilocker (DL, RC, PUC, Insurance)
• Use safety gears properly (Seat belts, Helmets)
• Follow traffic cop’s instructions
• Do not park in “No Parking Zones”

If a fine is incurred through e-Challan in the state of Telangana, it is to be paid within 60 days. Failing to do so may result in consequences like:

• Penalty for late payments
• Traffic Cop may come to your registered house
• You may be asked to appear in court
• In the worst case, you can be arrested.

The e-Challan system has eased up the traffic-related processes for the public and the RTOs in the state of TS. This system tries to eliminate corruption and make the whole process transparent to build trust between the public and the traffic police. It is a step towards going digital. Pay your e-Challan fines on time. Paying fines is important but it is also equally important to meet all the legal requirements like having proper car insurance to drive on public roads without getting an e-Challan.
