Driving License in Uttar Pradesh (UP DL)

Obtaining a driving license in the state of Uttar Pradesh is a simple process if you are aware of the procedure involved. For an applicant to be eligible to apply for a driving license in the state of Uttar Pradesh, he has to meet the below requirements:

• The applicant must be at least 18 years of age
• The applicant must possess a learner’s license
• The applicant should apply for a permanent driving license after 30 days or within 180 days of the issuance of learner’s license.

How to apply for driving license online in Uttar Pradesh?

• Visit www.uptransport.co.in and download the form and print it
• Fill in all the details and submit it at the RTO office
• You will also have to submit all the required documents
• You will then have to get a slot booked for your driving test
• On passing the test, you will get your license issued in 2 to 3 weeks

How to apply for driving license offline in Uttar Pradesh?

• Visit the RTO office in your area and collect the form
• Fill and submit the form
• Attach all the required documents
• Book a slot for your driving test
• If you pass the test, your license will be sent to you via speed post

Just like car insurance, your driving license is also subjected to renewal. A driving license in Uttar Pradesh is valid for a period of 20 years or until the age of 50, whichever is earlier. On the expiry of the driving license, an individual has to renew the license within 30 days from the date of expiry. If the individual renews the DL after 30 days, then an additional fee has to be paid along with the nominal fee for renewal. Documents required for renewal of driving license in Uttar Pradesh:

• Form no. 9 i.e. form for driving license renewal
• Original driving license
• Three passport size photographs
• Age and address proof
• Form 1 i.e. application-cum declaration as to physical fitness
• In case of a transport vehicle, form 1A i.e. medical certificate
• Photocopies attested by a gazetted officer or the notary public

Procedure for renewal of driving license in Uttar Pradesh

Offline procedure:

• Collect the form from the RTO
• Fill and submit the form along with the relevant documents at the RTO
• On verification of the documents, the applicant will be issued the renewed license on the same day.

Online procedure:

• Visit UP Government’s transport website- www.uptransport.co.in
• Download the form online and print it
• Fill it and submit it along with the relevant documents at the RTO office.
• On verification of the documents, the driving license is issued to the applicant on the same day.

Note: The renewed license for a commercial vehicle is sent at the registered address of the applicant.

Driving license test in Uttar Pradesh is conducted in the presence of a Motor Vehicle Inspector who will test your driving skills. Whether an applicant applies for a driving license online or offline, he will have to visit the RTO office to give the test. The applicant will have to bring his own vehicle to give the test. The vehicle should be the same as the class of the driving license he is applying for.

If the applicant fails the test, he can reappear for the test after a period of 7 days.
