SBI Critical illness plan offers crucial cover against 13 critical illnesses
The plan offers adequate coverage of INR 50, 00,000 for treating critical illnesses.
The policy offers 15 days of free look period to the policyholder.
The premium paid for the policy can be used for tax exemption under the provisions of Section 80D of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
As per the medical history, sum insured and age, the applicant may have to undertake medical exam for enrolment. The company will reimburse 50% of medical bill if the applicant passes the medical test eligibility and enrols in the policy.
There is a waiting period of 90 days before the insured can put claim under the policy.
The minimum coverage in the policy is INR 2,00,000 and maximum is INR 50,00,000, subject to conditions. Individuals above the age of 60 years buying a policy for the first time will be entitled to a maximum coverage of INR 15,00,000.
Premium charges may vary as per the age, the sum insured and plan option selected.
There are two plan options with regards to the policy tenure i.e. 1 year and 3 years in this SBI critical illness policy.
The premium paid for SBI Critical Illness plan can be used for tax deduction up to a limit of INR 50,000 as per the provisions mentioned in Section 80D of the Income Tax Act, 1961. It is to be noted that tax laws are revised from time to time. The applicant should consult the financial advisor to know the current income tax deductions and benefits at the time of buying the health insurance policy.
The SBI Critical Illness Policy offers coverage to the insured against 13 critical illness as mentioned below, anytime during the course of the active policy term. The benefit is payable on the condition that the insured is alive for a period of 28 days or as specifically stated in the survival period policy.

Critical illness policy can either be issued for a period of 1 Year or 3 Years as per the plan option selected. The policy with 3 year duration can be renewed till the age of 57 years only. Beyond the age of 57 years of age, all renewals will be allowed for 1 year duration only.

The claim will be successful only if the insured survives the survival period, which is 28 days or more from the date of first diagnosis.

The benefit of taking long term policy of 3 years is that the premium amount stays the same for 3 years, irrespective of an increase in premium and there is no hassle of renewal every year.

Is there any pre-medical check-up required?
A pre-medical check-up is required for individuals who have a poor medical history. Any applicant above the age of 45 years has to necessarily take the medical test, irrespective of the sum insured availed. If the applicant passes the medical test and buys the policy, the company will reimburse 50% of the pre-medical check-up bill as it was undertaken on the advice of the insurance company.
