The new deadline for linking Aadhaar-PAN card has been extended from September 30th, 2019 to December 31st, 2019.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) under the Ministry of Finance has extended the date to link the Permanent Account Number (PAN) and the Aadhaar card for filing of income tax returns. The new date now is December 31st 2019, an extension from the previous date which was 30th September 2019.
Earlier, the CBDT had made it compulsory to link the 12-digit Aadhaar number with the 10-digit PAN card in order to file income tax returns. As per the official statement, the government, on March 31st 2019, had extended the last date to link PAN card with Aadhaar card to file the income tax returns by six months till September 30th 2019. This is the seventh time the government has extended the deadline for individuals to link their PAN with their Aadhar card.
Reportedly, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) stated that there were multiple reports of PAN cards not linked with Aadhaar number by March 31st 2019, which may be invalidated. Due to this reason, the government decided to extend the date for three more months.
