The Transport Department of Andhra Pradesh functions under the provisions of section 213 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The Transport Department's main objective is to bring in the enforcement of the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, Andhra Pradesh Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1963 and the rules that come under the act.

License – Issuance of learner, permanent, renewal, duplicate, additions of class license and international driving permit.

A vehicle owner in Andhra Pradesh is required to register his vehicle with the AP RTO as per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Section 39 of the MVA, 1988 states that no person is allowed to drive his motor vehicle without lawfully registering it with the RTO. To register a vehicle in Andhra Pradesh, the below process has to be followed.
On verification of the above-submitted documents, the vehicle registration number is issued. The registration certificate is issued within a span of 7 days from the date of issuance of the number.
