The Transport Department of Govt. of Gujarat has the responsibility of providing an effective public transportation system, controlling vehicle pollution, registration of vehicles in Gujarat, issuance of driving license, car insurance, issuance of various permits, road taxes collection. The department is also responsible for policy-making, co-ordination, implementation, monitoring and regulatory functions of all transport related aspects of Gujarat.

.Every vehicle registered at the Gujarat RTO has to be insured with a third party car insurance. A third party insurance covers an individual against any damages caused to a third party or property. An individual can also opt for comprehensive motor insurance that provides coverage against damages caused to self, vehicle or third party or property. Comprehensive vehicle insurance also provides coverage against damages caused due to man-made or natural calamities.

The Gujarat RTO has been established for registration of vehicle as per the rules of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. To legally drive a motor vehicle in the state of Gujarat, an individual has to follow the below mentioned vehicle registration process.

Procedure for registration of motor vehicle at Gujarat RTO
A motor vehicle can be registered at any nearby RTO in Gujarat. The application for registration of vehicle can be made online or offline at the RTO. Form 20 along with scanned copies of the required document can be submitted online through rtoahmedabad-vahan.nic.in/xdealer/other/index.php . Vehicle inspection certificate has to be submitted at the time of application. Vehicle can be inspected by any authorized dealer in the state or at the RTO. The applicant is also required to pay the applicable application fee. On verification of the documents, a registration number is assigned to the applicant. An email or SMS is sent to the vehicle owner notifying him about the registration number. The vehicle registration certificate i.e. the RC is sent to the vehicle owner via speed post.
Vehicle Registration Fee for fancy number
An individual can opt for a fancy registration number for his vehicle by paying an application fee of Rs. 1000 for a two wheeler vehicle and Rs. 5000 for four wheelers. A fancy number can be obtained by public auction that is conducted whenever a new number series is opened at the RTO.
Process for Registration of Vehicle Brought From Other State in Gujarat
An application for registration of the vehicle at Gujarat RTO has to be made in Form- FT and Form No. 27 with Chassis print. Original RC book, vehicle insurance certificate and PUC certificate has to be submitted at the time of application. No objection certificate from the original registering authority and age and address proof have to be produced. Form 29 and 30 or 33 has to be filled and submitted for change in ownership and address. If the vehicle is being moved to Gujarat permanently, then declaration in Form F.T. has to be made within 7 days. The vehicle has to be brought for inspection at the Gujarat RTO.
