Kollam RTO was established for the purpose of effectively carrying out the provisions laid under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Kollam RTO is also responsible for development and changes in the Road Transport Technology, the Pattern of passenger and freight movements, development of road networks in the city and particularly the improved techniques in the motor vehicles management.
The Kollam RTO comes under Motor Vehicles Department of Kerala and is headed by the Transport Commissioner.
A vehicle insurance policy is mandatory for every vehicle registered at Kollam RTO as per The Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
