Thrissur RTO was established for the purpose of efficiently carrying out the provisions made under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The RTO office is responsible for the development and changes in the Road Transport Technology, the pattern of passenger and freight movements in the city, development of road networks in the city of Thrissur and particularly the improved techniques in the motor vehicles management.
The Thrissur RTO comes under Motor Vehicles Department of Kerala and is headed by the Transport Commissioner.
A car insurance policy is mandatory for every vehicle registered at Thrissur RTO as per The Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
