Lakshadweep is India's smallest union territory. Lakshadweep RTO is established under the provisions of section 213(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The regional transport office of Lakshadweep RTO deals with various regulatory and enforcement functions related to transport matters. The Lakshadweep RTO is headed by a transport commissioner who ensures swift implementation of various road safety measures undertaken for providing an effective and safe public transport to its citizens. The motor vehicle department of Lakshadweep was formed in the year 1990.
A motor insurance policy is mandatory for every vehicle registered at Lakshadweep RTO as per The Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
