Navi Mumbai RTO was established to work under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Department of regional transport office of Navi Mumbai works under the provisions of section 213(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Navi Mumbai RTO is headed by the transport commissioner who is responsible for ensuring an effective public transport system. Navi Mumbai RTO office is responsible for carrying out various road safety measures and also doing activities such as road tax collection, issuing driving license, controlling vehicle pollution and others.
A motor insurance policy is mandatory for every vehicle registered at Navi Mumbai RTO as per The Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
