The Transport Department of Telangana functions under the provisions of section 213 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The main objective of Telangana Transport Department is to bring in the enforcement of the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, enforcement of Telangana Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1963.

To legally drive a motor vehicle in Telangana, a vehicle owner has to obtain a vehicle insurance. The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 makes it essential for an individual to obtain a third party insurance that provides coverage against damages caused to third party. Another type of vehicle insurance is the comprehensive car insurance that covers the driver, his vehicle and any damages caused to a third-party or property.
The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 makes it essential for vehicle owners in Telangana to obtain a vehicle registration number to lawfully drive their vehicle in the state. Registration of the vehicle has to be done under a period of 30 days from the date of vehicle purchase. Renewal of Vehicle Registration in Telangana
Renewal of vehicle registration in Telangana has to be done after 15 days from the date of issuance of the number. Vehicle registration renewal can be done at RTO Telangana on submission of the below documents:
An application for renewal of vehicle registration has to be made before 60 days from the date of expiry.
Transfer of Vehicle from Other State to Telangana
In case an individual has migrated from other state to Telangana and wants to permanently register his vehicle in the state, then he can register his vehicle in the state by following the below process.
The applicant will have to submit the above mentioned documents along with no objection certificate to the Telangana RTO. The no objection certificate has to be obtained from the original registering authority. The applicable application forms and road tax has to be paid along with. On inspection of the vehicle and verification of the documents, the new vehicle registration number is given to the applicant.
